Binghamton, New York 1992

October 2, 1992

Binghamton, New York

Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena

Introduction

A decent show but not as good as some other shows from this tour (Long Island, Oakland or Detroit) but still enjoyable.

Background

The 2nd show of the 55-date Revenge tour.

Video Specifics

A single cam handheld from the center of the venue. The camera is just close enough to see the expressions on the band members faces.

The Show

Creatures of the Night- a high-energy opener. Gene fakes tongue action to Bruce during the song.

Deuce- is it possible for this song to sound bad ? This version sure doesn’t.

I Just Wanna- “ its good to be in New York because we are New York boys ’’. A decent version although Paul doesn’t lead the audience in the F-word chant towards the end of the song.

Unholy- before introducing this song, Paul makes a quick comment about upstate New York not being hillbilly country. Gene’s vocals are a tad weak but not a train wreck like some versions.

Parasite- as solid as one would expect. A towel gets thrown on Gene’s microphone stand just before the drum solo part. Coincidentally, Gene wipes his eyes just as the towel is being thrown.

Heaven’s on Fire- no flamethrowers at the beginning (there are at the end through). Paul’s vocals are buried. The filmer zooms out and the stage looks very similar to the Alive III stage shot with lots of reds and yellows, which is rather cool.

Christine Sixteen- “ song about a girl, underage but tastes real good ’’. This Love Gun hidden gem gets a fair treatment. A hat gets thrown at Gene near the end of the song but misses.

Domino- well played and generally well filmed. Gene’s vocals aren’t dreadful either.

Watchin’ You- is it just me or does the stage look “ smokier ’’ then normal ? Is it the lighting ? Is it the filmer ?

Hotter Then Hell- a standard playing.

Firehouse- see above comments. Gene blows one fireball, which is well filmed.

I Want You- “ you people in the back, get up. This is a rock and roll show, not fuckin’

school ! ’’. The song begins with pyro. A standard Revenge tour playing with Paul’s vocal flexing and Eric’ drum solo.

Forever- a surprisingly good version. Gene’s bass isn’t too high in the mix.

War Machine- the filmer seems to know what is going to happen because he (?) zooms out for most of the song. Either that or he is taking a break. The Statue of Liberty’s face doesn’t fully crumble as expected. Likely a crewmember or two had to yank the remaining stuck pieces down. Paul doesn’t look overly happy.

Rock and Roll All Nite- perhaps as a reaction to the previous song, Paul doesn’t introduce this song at all. An average version at best. It isn’t filmed great either with the filmer zooming out for most of the song.

Lick It Up- the beginning of the song is a tad shaky. The filmer focuses almost exclusively on Paul until the breakdown section.

Take It Off- there is no opening banter by Paul. I counted three strippers (a sleek brunette who gets most of the screen time; a buxom blonde; and another brunette). Paul’s voice almost cracks when the sleek brunette starts to undress next to him. This song is the highlight of any Revenge tour show and this is no different.

Cold Gin- Gene does a leg kick at the beginning of the song. Something gets thrown at Paul but doesn’t reach him. File this version under “ a notch below steam roller ’’.

Tears Are Falling- this version is nothing special. The camerawork is shaky as well.

I Love It Loud- Gene sings the song from one of the side platforms. The beginning is a tad shaky. Also, the filmer barely gets Gene in the zoom-out frame for the first and last part of the song. The song itself is rather decent too bad it wasn’t filmed better.

Detroit Rock City- Paul’s vocals could of been a bit better but who am I to quibble ?

Shout It Out Loud- as the band comes back on stage, there is a feedback noise. Paul remarks

“ we’re getting signals from outer space ’’. A fan hops on stage while Gene is singing. He goes past Gene, shakes Bruce’s hand and gets stopped by security before he gets to Paul. Later in the song, another fan hops onstage but is dealt with a little more firmly by two security members. The stage seems “ smoky ’’ again.

God Gave Rock and Roll to You II- the filmer is a tad out of focus. Gene makes a conductor motion during the breakdown part of the song.

Love Gun- a rather standard playing. Paul throws a lot of guitar picks to the crowd, which is the first indicator the show might be coming to an end.

The Star Spangled Banner- the filmer zooms out so the viewer gets a good view of the stage and all the pyro.

Overall

While this shouldn’t be your first show from the Revenge tour, this show is still enjoyable enough to get the proverbially “ thumb up ’’´from me. Overall, a 7.5 out of 10.
