Fort Worth, Texas

Tarrant County Coliseum

Introduction

Generally regarded as the best of the Asylum tour videos.

Background

This show was almost exactly two-thirds of the way into the approximately 90-date Asylum tour.

Video Specifics

This is an amateur filmed video, shot from the back of the arena towards the “ Gene ’’ side of the stage. The show is a bit distant (which result’s in a great view of the stage) but the filmer makes good use of the zooms so that the show isn’t as objectionable as it could have been.

The Show

Detroit Rock City- a good version with good vocals by Paul. It is a tad shaky at times but nothing too bad. A person’s head and arm get in the way at times at the bottom right of the screen.

Fits Like A Glove- another solid rendition of this non-makeup classic. Paul knocks over one of the speakers on the “ wall of speakers ’’ along the stage. It happens rather quickly but certainly seemed to be on purpose.

Creatures of the Night- Paul’s vocals aren’t great, which detract from this version.

Cold Gin- during this song, one thing is evident. Bruce is not close to being in the same league with Gene or Paul in terms of showmanship.

Uh ! All Night- a pretty decent song that works well in a live setting. I’m surprised this one never survived past this tour. Eric’s drum solo follows and is well worth watching, which says something since I normally fast forward through most solos.

War Machine- as this song began, I noticed Gene’s fire block (the thing Gene uses when he throws his fire stick after his fire breathing bit) sitting right at the front of the stage. With so much free room on the Asylum stage, it stuck out like a sore thumb. Gene is wearing this pinkish top that looks ridiculous. The song ends with some pyro and Gene blowing one fireball.

Love Gun- prior to this song, Paul tells a long winded story about flying the “ friendly skies ’’. At the beginning of the story, someone throws something on stage. However, the item in question is on fire. Standing in the shadows, Gene attempts to stomp it out but fails. A roadie comes to the rescue and puts it out. The song itself is highlighted by good vocals by Paul. Bruce spends most of the song standing near Eric’s drum riser or along the wall of speakers. There is some quick pyro at the end of the song but is nothing breathtaking by any means.

I Still Love You- a good version vocally but the camera is a bit distant and shaky. Gene’s bass solo follows, which includes his guitar gun stunt and lots of posing.

I Love It Loud- there is a brief cut before this song (Gene’s bass solo goes right into this song). An average version, which isn’t helped by the under whelming audience response during the chorus part. Paul spends part of the song with women’s underwear in his mouth. There is a cut prior to the next song, which begins with Paul’s solo and accompanying audience participation.

Heaven’s on Fire- this version begins with the usual fire opening. The song is rather pedestrian but the crowd does seem more energetic then earlier in the show.

Rock and Roll All Nite- throughout most of this song, Paul looks like he has something caught in his hair. At first glance, I though it might have been some woman’s undergarment but upon further inspection, it seemed to a headband. The filmer zooms out for most of the song and it ends with pyro.

Tears Are Falling- Paul introduces this song as such; “ he’s a song that makes Gene cry ’’. Paul’s vocals and Bruce guitarwork are the highlight of this version.

Won’t Get Fooled Again- Paul and Gene trade off verses (Paul singing the first while Gene sings the second). A decent version musically but the vocal’s leave a little to be desired especially Paul’s scream, which will make no one forget about Roger Daltrey anytime soon. The video cuts off just before the end of the song.

Overall

The camera was a little more distant then I would of liked but this show is still very enjoyable to watch and is certainly one of the best, if not the best, Asylum shows on video. I think that I liked the Toledo ’86 show a little more but this is still well worth tracking down if you are interested in the Asylum tour or ‘80s Kiss. Overall, a 7.5 out of 10.
