Introduction

I was hoping that this show would be good. While the performance itself is good, the camerawork leaves more then a bit to be desired.

Background

The first of eight “ British ’’ shows to promote Revenge. God Gave Rock and Roll to You II was somewhat of a hit for the band in England thus the tour.

Video Specifics

Filmed by 2 different cameras. The first is from the back center of the venue for the first eight songs and is horrendously shot for the most part. The rest of the show is filmed by a camera near the back of the venue on Gene’s side and is much more viewer friendly. There seemed to be a slight grain to the show but nothing objectionable. The band uses the Hot in the Shade stage.

The Show

I Stole Your Love- good audio but the camerawork is shaky and wanders.

Deuce- the worst filmed part of the show. If I didn’t know any better, I thought Kramer (from Seinfeld) was filming this song. If your going to take a bathroom break or get something to eat, this is the place to do it.

Heaven’s on Fire- better then the previous song but still a bit shaky. The filmer manages to get the opening flames through.

Parasite- “ comes off the second album ’’. The filmer focuses on Singer for the first part of the song before giving Gene some screen time.

Shout It Out Loud- too much Bruce, too much black screen and too much of the lighting rigs.

Strutter- the best shot song from this first camera.

Callin’ Dr. Love- lots of ceiling action camerawork but Gene sounds in good vocal form though.

I Was Made For Lovin’ You- “ not played since the Monsters of Rock shows ’’. The song cuts halfway through to the second camera.

Unholy- in many ways, the beginning of the show especially considering the songs before this were bordering on being unwatchable. Decent vocals by Gene make this a middle of the road version.

100,000 Years- Paul makes a jerk off motion during the “ just about to ohh, ya ’’ part.

Take It Off- the people in the front rows hit around a balloon. Paul’s vocals are close to cracking at times. I’ve heard better versions but this gets a faithful playing. In case you were wondering, no strippers came on stage during the song.

God of Thunder- Gene sings from one of the side platforms beside Singer. You can’t go wrong here, the song ends with the usual pyro one would expect.

Lick It Up- I’ll keep this short and to one word, passable.

Firehouse- decent and not as plodding as expected. The filmer gets a nice shot of Gene doing his fire breathing routine.

Tears Are Falling- Paul leads the crowd in an audience participation intro. Well played but the filming isn’t too great.

I Love It Loud- Gene’s sings this from one of the side railings. Decently sung but filmed a bit shaky.

Love Gun- “ this is one of those quiet ballads ’’. An average playing, the filmer doesn’t show as much of Paul as would like especially at the beginning. The song ends with pyro, Paul grabs his guitar and “ shoots ’’ the lighting rig in front of the stage.

Cold Gin- generally, well filmed and well played. Too bad the whole show couldn’t be like this. L

Detroit Rock City- all three are on the side railing during Bruce’s solo, Gene mounts the railing briefly. The song ends with pyro.

God Gave Rock and Roll to You II- good vocals make this one of the cleaner versions. Normally the vocal tradeoffs between Gene and Paul don’t sound so hot.

Rock and Roll All Nite- you’ve heard this song a billion times before; Paul smashes his guitar at the end of the song.

Overall

Realistically, this show is only for diehard video collectors. With so many better-filmed shows from this era, you might want to pass on this one unless you are from Glasgow. Overall, a 5.5 out of 10.
