One of the
‘80s Kiss bootleg audios that should be in most fans library simply based on
audio quality. Too bad the performance isn’t the greatest.
Background
The 53rd
of the 90-date North American Animalize tour. This is from the 2 LP vinyl
bootleg called Kiss My Ass. This has no relation to the tribute album of
the same name released years later.
Audio
Specifics
A
soundboard recording. One of the best audio’s from the tour and for good reason.
Rock and Roll All Nite is cut from the recording but it’s a safe bet that they
played it.
The Show
Cold
Gin- not the best or worst version I’ve heard so take that for what its
worth.
Creatures of the Night- a frenzied little playing especially Carr’s
drumming. Paul’s vocals sound weak and unconvincing.
Fits
Like A Glove- Paul introduces this song with a story about a girl, a hotel
and a long tongued child. Gene’s vocals are surprisingly good although the
backing vocals are nearly absent. All in all, a solid effort.
Heaven’s
on Fire- a long-winded intro by Paul that includes a Michael Jackson
impression and mentions of Three’s Company; Duran, Duran; and the Thompson
Twins. Oh, those 1980’s ! Call me crazy but versions of this song seemed to
sound better on this tour then the tours that came after it.
Under
the Gun- Paul’s solo segues into this song. Paul’s has a hard time vocally
trying to keep up with the fast pace of the song.
War
Machine- a beautiful version. Gene’s vocals are clean and Carr’s drumming is
pulsating. Eric’s solo follows the song and is thunderous.
Young
and Wasted- musically this song sounds fine but vocally this song is just
ugly.
I Love
It Loud- Gene’s solo prior to this song is longer then his normal token
efforts.
I Still
Love You- Paul’s vocals are restrained and Gene’s bass isn’t too high like
in most versions.
Lick It Up- Paul says “ if he ever breaks your heart ’’ faintly (I’m not sure what this is in reference to). He then says “ alright, we’re gonna do Fulsom Prison Blues. How about La Bamba ? You wanna hear
Kiss, right
? ’’. For some reason, this song fades out halfway through. I’m not sure if this
is like this on the vinyl or it’s just my copy of this show.
Love
Gun- another long-winded intro about going to the doctor and getting
examined. A pedestrian version although the drumming is good.
Black
Diamond- in an odd moment, Gene says “ Paul’s son from about 4 years ago,
that’s Paul Jr. ’’. Paul gets the crowd to sing the intro “ whoo, whoo, whoo ’’,
Paul then says “ girls, I bet you do a lot of screamin’ when your on your backs
! ’’. A well-played version with a nice ending, Eric’s vocals are raspy.
Oh
Susannah- played briefly then they play a slow country type of jam.
An excellent sounding recording with a few good moments (Carr’s drumming in particular) although the performance on the whole is rather tepid. Overall, an 8 out of 10.
