One of the
better amateur shot shows from the HITS tour and well worth locating if
you are a fan of this tour.
Background
This was
the 37th show of the 124-date HITS tour.
Video
Specifics
Before the
show starts there is a radio promo for the show (audio only), which is kinda
cool to hear. The show itself is a single cam, handheld from the center and rear
of the rather small venue (no side railings are used). The filmer is located on
the floor and thus a few heads and hands get in the way throughout the
performance but nothing that really distracts. The filmer’s location gives it
sort of a “ mosh pit ’’ type of feel to the show. This is one of the closest
amateur shot shows of the tour.
Deuce-
decent but filmed a bit shaky. The audio is less then perfect. It seems to have
a bit of feedback sound to it.
Heaven’s
on Fire- the song begins with the flamethrower intro part. Only 1 girl is
still on the shoulders (she is near Paul). The best filmed of the first three
songs.
Crazy
Nights- Paul begins with a rant about the local newspaper writer. He also
mentions the 7,000 in attendance. According to Kiss Alive Forever, the
attendance was only 4,090. This particular version of this song didn’t do much
for me at all.
Black
Diamond- Gene is on Eric’s drum riser early in the song. A decent version,
Eric’s vocals aren’t bad but aren’t great either. The song segues into…
Shout It
Out Loud- a middle of the road version. A few heads get in the way but
nothing too bothersome.
Strutter-
Paul has to change his guitar mid-song. In a bit of an awkward moment, the
tech. has to wait on stage next to Paul (with guitar in hand) for Paul to finish
the verse before changing guitars.
Callin’
Dr. Love- not as plodding as I expected this song to sound. The doctor might
not be done just yet.
Rise to
It- the standard “ blues ’’ intro begins the song. An average version.
Fits
Like A Glove- very nice. Good vocals by Gene and nice guitar work by Bruce
are the highlights of the tune. The ending is filmed a bit shaky though
Lick It
Up- the first half of this is very shaky, which mars an otherwise passable
version.
God of
Thunder- throughout the song, Gene doesn’t look enthusiastic at all. The
song ends with Leon and copious amounts of pyro. Gene sings the last part on the
platform to the back right of Carr.
Forever-
prior to this song Paul goes into a rant about the New Kids on the
Block and Millie Vanelli (he even does little dance move mocking
the two mentioned groups), this prompts the crowd to chant “ New Kids suck ’’.
A standard playing but well filmed.
Hide
Your Heart- the audience sings the chorus part, which helps kick the song
off. Well filmed and well played.
Cold
Gin- Paul sings the second verse.
Tears
Are Falling- an ok version but the camera work was a bit too shaky at times.
I Love
It Loud- a few heads get in the way but nothing too bad. The vocals are good
for the most part.
Love
Gun- is it just me or do the vocal sound thin during this song ? A faithful
playing with pyro ending.
Detroit
Rock City- there’s Gene pointing at the camera again. A surprisingly
energetic showing with pyro ending, again.
I Want
You- filmed pretty well and well played too.
Rock and
Roll All Nite- filmed a bit shaky. Gene is looking at 1 spot for an extended
period (again with the bored look, perhaps a spill over from God of Thunder ?).
He says something to security. What this was about, I have no idea. The song and
show end with pyro.
A rather good show, filmed from a somewhat unique perspective. Overall, an 7.5 out of 10.
